Environmental Protections

Bright Star operates in a highly regulated industry that protects public health and safety. The Railroad Commission of Texas enforces strict permitting and reporting regulations. Insurers also require operators to comply with applicable laws. Bright Star also partners with landowners to locate drill sites, pipelines and plants in the safest and most optimal locations.

Direct lithium extraction is a technical breakthrough offering environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional mining methods.

Lithium Extraction

From a reservoir nearly two miles beneath the surface, saltwater is pumped to an extraction facility where lithium is separated from the saltwater via a complex chemical separation process. After the lithium is extracted, all of the saltwater is returned to the reservoir. One of two types of plants is being proposed for lithium extraction in northeast Texas.

Lithium Deep Underground

THE SMACKOVER FORMATION

  • Spans every Gulf state

  • Roughly two miles underground

  • Historically, an oil and gas producing formation

  • Contains enormous amounts of saltwater with potentially economic quantities of lithium and other resources 

 

EACH SMACKOVER MINERAL ACRE IS NOT IDENTICAL

  • Lithium concentrations and quantities vary across this expansive reservoir

  • Lithium amounts can only be determined through drilling and brine testing

  • Skilled geologic and engineering teams are required to characterize the reservoir, maximize resource recovery and deliver economic value
