Lithium Leases in Texas:
A Mineral Owner and Landowner’s Guide
Texas mineral and landowners are uniquely positioned to benefit from one of the fastest-growing sectors in energy: lithium. With rising global demand for electric vehicles, battery storage, and clean energy, the need for lithium has never been greater, and much of it lies deep below Texas soil.
At Bright Star Exploration, we specialize in mineral owner and landowner-friendly lithium exploration. Our approach is built on clear communication, minimal surface disruption, and mutual benefit. If you’re a mineral owner or landowner curious about lithium leases in Texas, this guide will show you how to get involved on your terms.

Why Lithium Matters and Why Texas Is a Hotspot
Lithium is essential for modern energy storage solutions. From electric vehicles to grid-level battery banks, the transition to clean energy depends on a secure, scalable supply of this critical mineral.
Most of the world’s lithium is currently mined abroad. But in Texas, vast underground formations, like the Smackover Formation in East and Northeast Texas, hold immense lithium resources in the form of brine. This shift opens new opportunities for mineral owners and landowners in Texas who want to participate in the energy economy without compromising their land use.
What Is Landowner-Friendly Lithium Exploration?
Traditional lithium mining often means heavy equipment, open-pit mines, and major land disruption. Bright Star approaches lithium mining differently.
We partner with industry-leading direct lithium extraction (DLE) service providers to separate lithium from the Smackover brine. DLE is a clean, closed-loop process that draws lithium-rich brine from deep underground, filters out the lithium, and returns the water to its source. There are no evaporation ponds or destructive mining sites. This approach has very little surface impact to agriculture, grazing, or recreation.
Our commitment to mineral owner and landowner-friendly lithium exploration means:
-
Minimized surface impact
-
No fracking or blasting
-
Environmentally responsible operations
-
Landowners continued use of land during lithium development and production
A Transparent Leasing Process Built Around You
At Bright Star, we know that trust is everything. That’s why we’re known for our transparent brine leasing agreements that are easy to understand and tailored uniquely to your land and specific needs. Here’s how the process works:

1. Initial Contact and Assessment

2. Clear Lease Terms

3. Exploration with Minimal Disruption
We begin by getting to know you and your goals with your mineral and surface ownership. During this time, we assess whether your ownership rights are good candidates for a brine lease with Bright Star. No commitments, no pressure.

If your surface location and mineral ownership are a good fit for Bright Star, we’ll present you with a straightforward lease agreement.
Our contracts include competitive upfront bonus payments, clear royalty structures, and no hidden clauses. We take the time to walk you through every term.
If your location is suitable for an exploratory test well, we will present you with a simple surface agreement.
Once we agree to terms, Bright Star works around your schedule and land use to conduct our exploratory drilling and appraisal activities, which require only small pad sites and minimal equipment.

4. Royalty Income
Once exploration leads to production and lithium sales begin, you’ll receive ongoing royalty payments in accordance with your lease agreement.
5. Continued Use and Legal Protection
Our agreements are designed to protect your rights and comply with all Texas regulatory standards.

Where in Texas Is Lithium Being Found?
Northeast Texas, particularly areas in Hopkins County like Sulphur Springs, Cumby, and Brashear, is quickly becoming a hub for lithium development. Towns in Rains County like Emory are also gaining interest in lithium development. These towns lie atop the Smackover Formation, a vast subsurface brine reservoir with potentially economic quantities of lithium concentrations in North America.
While activity is currently centered in this region, the Smackover Formation stretches across large parts of East Texas as well. If you own minerals or land in or near this geological zone, you may be eligible for lithium leasing opportunities.
